New deadline announced for Summer Soccer Fund applications

Date

Due to exceptional demand, and to ensure as many football teams as possible are able to make use of the funding, the application deadline for North Wales Police and Crime Commissioner Andy Dunbobbin’s Summer Soccer Fund is moving to August 4. This means all teams that wish to make a submission should do so immediately to avoid disappointment. The Summer Soccer Fund was launched on Monday 17 July in partnership with the Football Association of Wales and, since then, teams from across the region have been sending in their applications for the funding on offer at an encouraging rate.

The Summer Soccer Fund has been created as a way to combat issues such as anti-social behaviour (ASB), which can often see a spike over the summer months. The goal is that the funding will go towards football and sporting activities to keep children and young people occupied in a positive way, while also promoting teamwork, exercise, and a fun and inclusive atmosphere for everyone.

The money specifically available for sport over the summer is another plank of the PCC’s Innovate to Grow initiative, which launched last year and recognises and helps fund ground-breaking initiatives dealing with the causes of crime across the region. Funding is available up to a maximum of £5,000 per football club, but if the sessions cover two counties funding is available up to £10,000. In certain circumstances, funding can go towards equipment, as well as the provision of activities, but must be spent during the summer period.

Andy Dunbobbin commented: “I have been delighted with the interest shown in the Summer Soccer Fund by clubs right across North Wales and am looking forward to seeing the difference it makes in helping provide young people with fun and worthwhile activities to take part in over the summer. Given the demand for the Summer Soccer Fund, we have brought the application deadline forward to enable as many clubs as possible to benefit from the funding prior to the end of the summer. I would urge any team that’s interested to apply now!”
