Business owners urged to book place at Cyber Security event

Cyber Security North Wales – protect your business, protect your future

North Wales Police and the Police and Crime Commissioner for North Wales are hosting a first-of-its kind free event for business owners in North Wales on how to keep their businesses safe from cybercrime. The event is taking place in Wrexham on 14 June and business owners across the region are being urged to secure their place.

Cyber security is a growing concern for businesses and is a daunting topic for many. With this in mind, Cyber Security North Wales will bring together key voices and organisations to discuss simple steps that every business can take to protect themselves online.

This free all-day event will take place on June 14 at Wrexham Glyndwr University, and will feature contributions from speakers and organisations including:

• Police and Crime Commissioner for North Wales, Andy Dunbobbin
• National Cyber Security Centre – The UK Government organisation that provides advice and support for the public and private sector in how to avoid computer security threats.
• Welsh Government’s Cyber Resilience Team
• North-West Regional Organised Crime Unit
• Cyber Crime Team, North Wales Police
• Cyber Wales
• Cyber Resilience Centre for Wales
• Police Cyber Alarm
• Get Safe Online

As well as keynote talks, the event will also feature an exhibition area and afternoon interactive workshops to enable delegates to keep their business operations secure from cybercrime.

North Wales Police and Crime Commissioner, Andy Dunbobbin, commented: “Cybercrime is a fast-growing area of criminality and one that I am determined to fight against in North Wales. This new event will offer business owners across the region the opportunity to come together, hear from the experts, and learn how to keep their businesses safe from cyber criminals and I am delighted to be working with the cybercrime team at North Wales Police and other key partners to stage it. Cybercrime Detective Constable Roheryn Evans of North Wales Police said: “Cyber can be a daunting prospect for small or medium-sized business owners and is often the last thing on people’s minds when they’re busy running their operations. Business owners most likely haven’t got anybody to help when it comes to computers, or there may be a friend they can call to help once in a while.

“What does the word Cyber even mean? We want this event to demystify cyber and help business owners understand what the risks are, and the first steps people need to take to protect themselves and their business. Importantly, we want business owners to know that there are people who can help. If you use an email to stay in touch with your clients or suppliers, use social media apps to promote your business, or you’ve set up a website to sell on the Internet, this event is for you!”
