North Wales Police and Crime Commissioner Andy Dunbobbin met local community leaders and representatives from Prestatyn Town Council, Prestatyn High School and North Wales Police on Tuesday, March 29 to discuss ongoing anti-social behaviour (ASB) in the area and measures underway to remedy the issues.

Mr Dunbobbin visited the area following an invitation from the Prestatyn Town Council and met Mayor and member of the Governors of Prestatyn High School, Cllr Sharon Frobisher, for a walk around the town centre, including the High Street and Parc Prestatyn. In recent times, local residents and the Town Council have reported several incidents of anti-social behaviour among a small number of local young people, especially in Parc Prestatyn and at the park in Station Road. With summer approaching and the enduring popularity of Prestatyn as a family-friendly resort, the Council is keen to resolve these incidents of anti-social behaviour for the benefit of local residents and tourists alike.

Andy Dunbobbin commented: “A key part of my Police and Crime Plan for North Wales is delivering safer neighbourhoods for local residents and supporting victims and communities.

“When Prestatyn Town Council got in touch, I was keen to visit and to listen to their concerns and understand more about how the behaviour of a small number of local young people is impacting local residents. I am determined to work with local leaders, Prestatyn High School, the community in Prestatyn and North Wales Police to address these issues and hopefully bring a stop to this behaviour. I would encourage residents and shopkeepers to report any incidents of anti-social behaviour they come across, so that action can be taken.”

Cllr Sharon Frobisher, Mayor of Prestatyn and Meliden, commented: “I strive to make our community a safe place to be for all age groups. Having had a spate of badly behaved young people in and around the town centre, I found the visit by Andy Dunbobbin very promising. Together with teaching staff from Prestatyn High School, we were able to walk about the town centre and discuss the problems and various issues affecting the area. Mr Dunbobbin was very positive in his attitude to work with local leaders, the Town Council and North Wales Police to counter any future issues regarding local policing”.

PC Phil Wilson, Community Beat Manager, said: “Tackling and preventing ASB is important to us and we are committed to doing all we can, alongside partners, to resolve the issue. It was good to be able to talk through and explain to both the Commissioner and the Mayor what we are actively doing to tackle some of the concerns in Prestatyn.

“We talked about the Shopwatch scheme and our increased patrols. Partnership working is also key and we’re continuing to work closely with the High School and Denbighshire County Council. I would encourage anyone with any concerns about ASB in the town to contact us via 101 or webchat.

“I hope that both the Commissioner, the Mayor and local people are reassured that we recognise Prestatyn is a busy town, we remain committed to being highly visible in the community and we will do all we can to work with them to continue to improve the town.”
